What really is the Catholic understanding of vocation? Since the second Vatican Council the teaching of the Catholic Church has become clearer (though it was also taught before), that the primary vocation is the vocation to love, and particular vocations are means and ways to the living and growing in love for God and neighbor. All Catholic vocations are vocations to love; any particular vocation has to be understood in light of this common and universal call to live in the love of Christ.
